Meet Our Advisory Board
In our wildlife rehabilitation program we are constantly faced with diagnosing, treating, and making life and death decisions for the wildlife and mistreated exotics that we accept. Although we are licensed with the State and Federal Agencies that permit us to provide care for these animals, we are not vets, and are not permitted or trained to do much of the work that the animals need. There are many vets and animal hospitals that help us with our work. We would like to introduce to you our medical advisory board members.Dr. David Kolins, New Hyde Park Animal Hospital
Dr. Kolins loves to work on the exotics, will do surgery on anything, and in his own words "is not afraid of the rabies!." The more bizarre the animal, the more interested he is. He has provided pro-bono care for alligators, opossums and kinkajous. He has also patched up many extreme rescue dogs and cats, Guinea Pigs and Ferrets. We know that if we need someone to have or dig up the knowledge to treat an unusual case, this is the man to call. This is the amazing vet who saved the life of our Cosmo Coyote. The best part of this advisory board member is that he came to us, offered his help, and has stuck with us for years.
Dr. Steve Templeton, Animal Emergency Hospital, Selden
Dr. Templeton got snowballed into this position. Since so many of our rescued animals come through Animal Emergency first, he gets the pleasure of diagnosing, consulting and advising anyway, so when we asked him to be an official advisor it was merely a formality. His experience in Pathology has helped us learn from the animals that we have not been able to save. He has also donated his services for medical procedures on some of the domestic rescues we have helped to rescue through the Emergency Hospital.
Robin Parker LVT
Robin is a STAR member, and offers her time for teaching classes and providing help with procedures involving drawing blood, starting IVs and certain tests that can be run here. She is always ready to figure out a dosage or provide fluid therapy guidelines. She is not above going on a rescue or cleaning a cage. Currently Robin works at the Farmingville Animal Hospital.
There are endless other people who help us on a daily basis, and we could not do this job without all of them.
We also would like to mention Patrick C. McCarthy of McCarthy, Safrath and Carbone, PC. Patrick has been our legal advisor for many years, and is always there for us when we have questions. His staff is very patient and understanding of our lack of legalese, and we truly appreciate the support.
Our thanks go to Animal Emergency Service, Stop and Shop of Coram, Regency Forest Pet Cemetery, Middle Island Rental, Agway of Port Jeff., Pumpkin Patch Farm Stand in Yaphank, Little Red Farmstand in Middle Island, Maxine, Dr. Linda Pesek, Dr. Nick Valenti, Arno, Jim, Bob, Debbi, Debbie, Peggy, Tarran, Maggie, Diane, Ginny, John, Katherine, Jack, Monica, Daina, and all the other volunteers who help us so selflessly.
